An HR audit or assessment involves a comprehensive review of an organization’s people practices, policies, procedures, documentation, and compliance requirements. The goal of the audit is to celebrate what’s working, and fix what is not as it pertains to the people part of the business by identifying risks and potential improvements for legal compliance, culture and process efficiency. A typical HR audit examines an organization’s documents and processes including but not limited to employee handbook, metrics/KPIs, personnel files, hiring and onboarding, compensation and classifications, HR tech tools, organizational structure, training and development, and benefits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and alignment with the organizations strategy and values. From the examination, an effective HR audit will identify the areas of risk and provide a roadmap to improve efficiency, consistency, compliance, and overall employee experience.
